RED PANDAS
APPEARANCE
Although red pandas share their name with pandas, they both don't look as similar as you would expect. For red pandas, their bellies and limbs are black and they have white markings on the sides of their heads and above their eyes. But the main difference is that their backs and tails are red, also where they get their names from.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Red pandas do occasionally eat insects, but they are still classified as herbivores. Their main diet is bamboo ,fruit, acorns, roots, and eggs. Also, red pandas are mammals because they have fur and are warm blooded. An adult red panda's weight is 12- 20 lbs on average. In addition, their predators are snow leopards, and martens.
ENDANGERED
Red pandas are rapidly decreasing in population. There is only an estimated 10,000 red pandas left in the wild. This is due to deforestation. Since people are constantly clear cutting forests, red pandas are losing their native habitats having no where to live and no shelter. Also red pandas need bamboo plants to eat and when the forest is clear cut there wont be bamboo for them to consume.
