"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." -Galatians 3:28
Being moral is defined as being concerned with the principles of right and wrong behavior and the goodness or badness of human character.
We can relate Jesus to being a moral guide for us because of the way He lived in everyday life, this including the way He treated strangers and the lessons He left with us.
"Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them."
-Matthew 5:7
Here, Jesus left us lessons that are still applicable today in our world, the most known being the Beatitudes.
The Beatitudes give us a specific base of having a good moral character, as well as providing us with all the tools we need to have a close to perfect Christian character.
The tax collectors were regarded to be the greatest sinners, (due to the fact they collected the money from the people) no Jew ever had desire to be in the presences of one of these men. A scandal at the time, Jesus allowed these men to follow Him, He even broke bread in the house of Levi, a known tax collector in the area. Jesus invited Levi to join Him as one of His closest disciples.
Today, we have almost become accustomed to hearing how we are to include everyone, whether we are best friends with them or just classmates with them, we are to make sure everyone feels welcome. Jesus sets the way for this, at times, difficult task. By sitting with what was considered the lowest of the low Jesus gave us a guide on how we must accept everyone. We can see this in the video when Jesus accepted the tax collector even though everyone else discouraged him. Jesus sets the perfect example on how to treat others.
Jesus accepted all people, whether you were rich or poor, a man or woman, Jew or Gentile, Jesus had your best interest at heart.
When we look in the Bible, we find many examples of Jesus' profound inclusiveness, a common example is Jesus and the tax collectors.
You do not have to go above and beyond in order to be a moral person. Simple things and small gestures can benefit your morality such as:
Although following Christ's word and saying we believe in Jesus is beneficial to our faith, it is not enough. In order to have a deeper and more loving relationship with Jesus, we have to act upon our words and prove to ourselves and others that we really will follow through with our faith. By trying to imitate Jesus we can grow in faith and spirit, and doing so will also build upon our character and how we treat others.
Anyone can say that they are Christians and follow Jesus and His teachings, but Jesus challenges us to go beyond just professing our faith. As Christians, Jesus challenges us to hold a higher moral value, and to imitate Him in every decision we make. In other words, its great to say you are a Christian, but it doesn't matter if you do not live as a Christian.
