The Ulas family is the most know case of the Uner Tan syndrome. Out of the 19 in the family, only five have the disease. The five with the disease were severely mentally retarded and have to walk in a “Bear Crawl”. This family was featured on the documentary , The Family That Walks on All Fours.
The first to study this genetic disorder was Uner Tan. He called the syndrome a condition of extreme brain damage and believed that is was the result of reverse evolution. However years latter, scientist have proven what he said to be not true.

The most obvious symptom is a lack of balance which causes them to walk on all four limbs. The other major symptom is the mental retardation. They are unable to speak words that anyone can understand. Without help, the individual would die from all the symptoms of Uner Tan Syndrome.

Uner Tan syndrome was very promoted by the BBC2 documentary called The Family That Walks on All Four. The documentary helped spread light on the mysterious syndrome. Uner Tan Syndrome is very new and lacks the support and promotion as other genetic disorders.
