London stands on both banks of the river Thames. It is the deepest and the most important river of the UK.

Madame Tussaud's is a famous

waxworks museum. It has one of

the largest collections of life-size

wax models in the world.

The Tate Picture Gallery contains pictures by English masters of the 19th century and the works of West European classics and modern artists.

Royal Albert Hall

The Natural History Museum

has rich collections of

botany and zoology.

Barbican Centre

Barbican Center is an enormous

complex which contains two Theatres

(the Royal Shakespeare Company

and the London Symphony Orchestra),

an art gallery, three cinemas and two

exhibition halls.

Covent Garden is a museum and a fair at the same time. The famous Royal Opera House is also here.

Mansion House is the official

residence of the Lord Mayor

The Museum of the Moving Image is a very interesting museum. The history and magic of cinema and TV is explained here. There are hundreds of clips from films and TV programmes. Visitors can take an active part.

The Tower was a fortress, a royal palace and a prison

It also served as a place of execution and torture, an armoury, a treasury, the Royal Mint, a public records office, an observatory, and since 1303, the home of the Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom. It is a museum now.

Kensington Gardens are full of trees,

grass, flowers and water. The statue of

the famous fairytale hero Peter Pan can

be seen here.

St James's Park is the oldest London park. It is very beautiful with its trees and flower beds.
