The Mississippi River Estuary has 2 seasons, a wet one, and a dry one. The average temperature for the dry season is 77°F and for the wet season, it's 64°F. The average precipitation in the dry season is 3.04 in. vs 6.17 in. in the wet season.

World Location

Although there are estuaries all around the world, this specific one is located in the interface of the Mississippi River and the Gulf of Mexico.

Plants and Their Adaptions

Some of the plants that live here are Spider Lilies, Cattails, Swamp Roses, and Cypress trees. All these plants have adapted to brackish water and some go through desalination, which is the process of converting saltwater into fresh water.

Environmental Factors

An estuary is where salt water from oceans and fresh water from rivers meet. It forms brackish water, a mixture of both.

Animals and Their Adaptions

Animals that live in estuaries are usually euryhaline. This means they can tolerate a large range of salinities which is necessary for them since the salinity of the water changes with the tidal cycle. Examples are oysters, blue crabs, and barnacles.
