Our chosen song;

Monody - The Fat Rat feat. Laura Brehm

locations

Some locations we wish to film at include a beach and/ or a pier on a beach, a fun fair or theme park/ arcade. We also wish to film in a woodland, natural garden area to be fitting with our fairy woodland theme. One famous music video and artist that has filmed in a woodland is Taylor Swift in her music video 'out of the woods'.

Some artists and music videos that were filmed on a beach or pier include; Katy Perry for 'Californa gurls', and LFO 'summer girls'.

And lastly some artists that were filmed at a theme park/ arcade/ funfair include: Jessica Simpson with 'i think im in love with you' and Jordon Knight with his 'give it to you' music video.

Editing

We think using lots of short cuts, medium shots which we will acompany with plenty of editing techniues such as green screen and filters will fit with the electric aspects within the song and the songs genre. We will use final cut pro and place our short clips together in lots of cuts to make the pace of the music video fast and chaotic to fit our music video genre.

Video genre

The music genre our song comes under is electric/courntry/folk music. Another music videos that are in the same genre of electric/counrtry/folk music genre like ours are Avicii with 'wake me up'.

Types of audiences

Clothes

Hall has three types of audience decoding; dominant or preferred, negotiation and oppositional.

Dominant decoding is how the producer wants the audience to decode the text.

Negotiation is where the audience agrees with some of the text however other areas the audience doesnt agree completely with.

Oppositional is where the audience fully disagrees with the message portrayed and they create their own meaning.

We have decided to create a woodland, beach, theme park, mysterious, fairy themed music video. The clothes used within our music video will be fitting to our theme, with connotations of mythical elements for example a floaty dress, hair curled an messy and a flower crown to fit the fairy appearance.

What is Hall's theory ?

Props

Other music videos by artists such as Katy Perry and Jessie J use props in their music videos, which vary from bank notes to instruments and strange objects like a teddy bear hand bag in the case of Miley Cyrus. Within our music video we will add props that link to our mythical theme, perhaphs a wand or a tia or flower crown.

Hall's Reception theory is referred to as audience reception. Hall's approach, called the encoding and decoding model of communication which focuses on the scope of "negotiation" and "opposition" by the audience.

When a text is created by a producer a message is generally encoded within the text, and the meaning or message will be conveyed to a mass audience ( which is called preferred reading).

In some cases a noneffective message can be created by the producer where the message in the text is not correctly understood by the audience.

Cinematography and colour

Lighting

The framing within our music video is going to be quite consistent within our music video. We will use scenery from each of our locations and objects in the background to frame the subject of our music video which is a girl/fairy character. The scale and movement, duration and length of shots will be fast, short shots, placed together in cuts to make the pace more chaotic which fits with our music genre. The camera focus is also something to consider within our music video, the depth of focus will be deep focus on our main character and the scenery in some shots, and in others we would use shallow focus on the sbject and have a faded background. We might also use pan, tilt and other angled to hit the might and catch the colour of the setting within the video.

The majotity of the lighting used within our music video is going to be natural, during the daytime light and the sunset in the eveming will be used to film and set the scene as mysterious and natural and close to nature. When the sun has set during our filming we will use unnatural lights from our mobile phones an torches to change the mood of the music video.

Hair and make-up

We would like the hair and makeup of our music video character to be extremely representative pf our music video genre which is electric/folk/counry music. We will try to create a female mythical, fairy using bright, glittery makeup using pinks, silvers and gold shimmers. And we will make the characters hair seem natural, curled and messy which fits with the folk elements of our music genre.
