The Heros Quest has three stages.

1. Seperation Stage : The hero leaves his familiar life where he has an identity.

2. Initiation Stage: The hero faces obstacles and trials that lead him to a climactic experience which helps him find courage and inner peace.

3. Return Stage: The hero returns to life and sometimes bestows blessings on his people.

I will be doing my heroes quest on The Odyssey and Harry Potter the Deathly Hallows part 1 & 2.

The call to adventure is where someone or something lets him know he has a higher purpose or a higher meaning in life.

In The Odyssey Odysesseus was called to adventure by Agamemnon and Menelaos.

Harry's call to adventure is a dream. He expieriences a dream which makes him remember he has to destroy all 7 horcruxes in order to defeat Lord Voldermort.

The refusal to the call is where something is blocking the hero from leaving.

In The Odyssey, Odysseus was not wanting to leave his newborn son Telemachus or wife Penelope.

Harry tries to leave the night of his dream but Ron convinces him not to because he cannot go alone.

The Supernatural Aid is where somethings shoves him into action making him go.

In The Odyssey Athena helps by telling Odysseus to fight and Posidon helps Odysseus by sending the Cracan to save them from being ratted out.

Harry is helped by Hermione, whos knowledge is needed to find the horcruxes; Dobby is also sent to help him out of tough situations.

The Crossing of the First Threshold is where the Hero actually crosses out of his comfort zone.

The Crossing of the First Threshold in the Odyssey is where Odysseus gets onto the boat to go to war.

After being chased by the ministry Harry and his friends Ron and Hermione find shelter in the woods.

The Belly of the Whale could be a state of mind or where the Hero is not at home, but not where they are going either.

In The Odyssey Odysseus is leaving after the war to go hme and gets lost in the fog between home and the war place.

After finding out what he must do Harry heads down to face Lord Voldermort. Hes not at home yet and he hasnt defeated Voldermort yet.

The Road of Trials is the rising action; Problems the hero faces.

In The Odyssey

*Odysseus beats the Cyclopes.

*He tempts the Circe

*Then he gets stuck on Clypsos island without being able to leave.

*Then Penelope has to marry agian and house the suitors

*Odysseuss' mother drowns herself.

In Harry Potter

*They have to figure out what the 7 Horcruxes are.

*Hide from the ministry and death eaters.

*risk their lives for the ones they love.

The Meeting with the Goddess is where the hero realizes who he is and what his limits are.

In the Odyssey Posideon tells Odysseus without the Gods he is nothing.

Harry realizes that in order to kill Voldermort he has to sacrafice himself becuase apart of Voldermort is in Harry, in his scar. He is one of th Horcruxes. He realizes to end this, he has to do it himself.

The woman as Tempress is where the temptation is the heros weekness.

In the Odyssey Clypso temps Odysseus with food, water and herself to make Odysseus not want to leave.

In Harry’s case, one factor that temporarily tempts him away from his journey is the loss of Sirius Black. This devastates him. He also learns at King’s Cross that he can choose to die there or defeat Voldemort. Ultimately, however, Harry recognizes the importance of finally defeating Voldemort and goes back to his body in the Forbidden Forest.

The Atonement with the Father is where the hero turns down the temptation to get back where he needs to be.

In the Odyssey Posidon talks to Odysseus and makes him realize withought he Gods he is nothing more than a man.

Harrys father is actually with him while he defeats Voldermort thanks to the resurrection stone.

The Apotheosis is where the hero pulls all of his strengths together to get that last bit of strenght to kill his obstacles. He is willing to die.

In the Odyssey, Odysseus strings the bow and shows the suitors who he really is.

Harry’s Apotheosis occurs when Voldemort kills the horcrux inside Harry and sends him to King’s Cross. Harry then comes back to fight.

The Ultimate Boom is the climax. Its where the hero defeats the obsticle.

In the Odyssey, Odysseus has to kill all the suitors in his home Kingdom of Ithica.

Harry wins all three Deathly Hallows and becomes the master of death. He chooses to meet death as an old friend just like his ancestor. He uses the Elder Wand only to repair his wand and then puts it away and refuses to use it. He purposely loses the Resurrection Stone. He destroys the wand allowing the wizard world to live without fear of it being used again.

The Refusal of the Return is where the Hero defeats all the villians but passes out at the end.

In the Odyssey, Odysseus tells his son not to tell anyone he is home.

Harry has to return to his aunt and uncles house even though he hates it, because it cuts him off from the wizarding world. This is the Refusal of the Return.

The Magic Flight and the Rescue from Without are basically the same. Its where some force comes in to pull the hero out of danger.

In the Odyssey Athena disguises Odysseus as a old man to get him into his palace without being killed by the suitors.

The hero is chased by the ministry, in the forest and the room of requirments.

The Crossing of the Return Threshold is where after the hero is safe the loose ends are tired and he can return back home.

In the Odyssey Athena Disguises him so he can go home to Ithica in his palace.

In Harry Potter, Harry, Ron, and Hermione go on an adventure to find the remaining Horcruxes, but have to return to Hogwarts to find the last ones.

The Master of the Two Worlds is where he saves the unfimilar world and the fimiliar world.

in The Odyssey,Odysseus saves his world in Troy, By doing so he saves his Kingdom Ithica.

Harry has saved the wizard world by defeating Voldermort. By doing this he has saved the muggle world aswell.

Freedom to live is where the hero is now allowed to live his life freely, not held back and there is a big happy ending!

In the Odyssey, Odysseus is now free to live while he is with his world; his wife as he holds her in his arms.

In the end 19 years later, we see Harry and Ron and Hermione send their kids off to Hogwarts safely without having to worry about Voldermort.

The Epic quest is where the heros journey to become a better eperson. It is epic because it is a large scale.

In the Odyssey, Odysseus goes through the journey thinking he doesnt need the Gods, but in the end he realizes he was and is just a man.

"'My goal is not to kill you. You must understand.''What? What? What do you want me to understand?''That without the gods, man is nothing'"(Homer).

Rags to riches is where someone with a true heart and good character who has had bad circumstances but becuse they are good hearted they then become higher or above most.

Harry Potter is a good hearted person but with a bad past. But because he has always stayed true to himself and helped others he ends up defeating Voldermort.

"'I never wanted any of you to die for me'"(JK Rowling).

This just shows how good hearted he is.

this is where someone of high steem falls because of a traic flaw.

Odysseus was known as a man of war. He then falls because he is too full of himself. Posideon prevent him from returning home and in the process making him realize he is just a man.

"'My goal is not to kill you. You must understand.''What? What? What do you want me to understand?''That without the gods, man is nothing'"(Homer).

The Prodigal Son is where the main character is stubborn and he knows best so he shuns everyone he loves and relazies hes doesnt know best and comes crawling back.

In the Odyssey, Odysseus thinks he is the best and knows everything so he tries to lead his men without the help of the Gods. Most of his men die so he then realizes he is just a man and asks the Gods to help him get back home.

"'Do you see, you gods of sea and sky? I conquered Troy. Me Odysseus, a mortal man of flesh and blood and bone and mind! I do not need you now, I can do anything.''Odysseus, why do you defy me?'' Who are you?''It is I Poseidon, god of the wine dark sea. You have forfeited for forgetting how I helped you.''Help me? For ten years you played with us as toys. For ten years you let blood spill to your shores.''But it was my serpent who silenced Laocoon or your horse was doomed, yet you refuse to give thanks. You forget, a man is nothing without the gods. You will suffer for this offense. For your arrogance, you will drift on my sea for an eternity, never again will you reach the shores of Ithaca.''You cannot stop me!''You will suffer.'"(Homer ).

an epithet is a phrase that is regualry used to characterize a person place of thing.

"'Sing to me of the man, Muse, the man of twists and turns'"(Homer 1).

In Media Res is a technique where a story begins either at the mid-point or at the conclusion, establishing settings, characters and conflict.

Harry Potter begins in Media Res. The movie begins in the middle of the story.

Invocation is a prayer to the muse or other deity.

"'Sing in me, Muse, and through me tell the stry of that man skilled in all ways of fighting, the eanderer, troubled for years on end, after he robbed the stronghold on the proud height of Troy'"(Homer 1).

Allusion is a refrences to a statment a person, a place or a event from Literature, History, Religion and Mythology.

"'So he spoke, and the ministrel moved by the God, began, and let his song be heard, talking up the tale where the Argives had embarked on thier benched ships and where sailing away, after casting fire...'"(Homer 23).

These works of litterature have real life connections or relavince because it teaches us lessons. With The Odyssey we learn that sometimes we arent better than others and we might need help. We dont need to be so big headed. With Harry Potter we learn many things But one of the biggest thigs we learn is being humble always has a reward.
