Margo Oberg
- Was born in Pennsylvania on September 8, 1953.
- She was the daughter of an aerospace engineer.
- At the age of five she and her family moved to a wealthy beachfront property in San Diego to the community of La Jolla.
- She began surfing at the age of 10.
When she was 13, under the mentoring of Mike Doyle (power surfer), Margo became a finalist in the Makaha International, and runner-up in the Untied States Surfing Championships.
Joyce Hoffman was the current dominant figure of women's surfing. However in 1968 Oberg repeatedly finished ahead of Hoffman, placing first in three out of seven events on the years elite AAAA - California circuit, the Westerns Surfing Association's Woman's title, and winning the the Worlds Surfing Championships and the Surfer Poll, just at the age of 15.
She also won the Makaha and East Coast Championships that same year.
In 1972 she met her husband Steve Oberg, and after only being together for two weeks, they were married
- The many years she spent surfing the rugged of Kauai, and reading the Bible paid off, because there was surge in her performance level. So in 1977 when the International Professional Surfing tour added woman's events, Oberg set out to claim the the first ever woman's crown, and she won. The following year however she did not. Oberg lost to her nemesis Lynne Boyer by a hair. She reclaimed the Surfer Poll the year after. She then went into a one year hiatus.
- In 1980 and 81 Oberg returned and won back-to-back titles. After she retired for good. and settled down with her Oberg in Kauai.
