HOW SLTEC GENERATES POWER
INDONESIA
Coal is a fossil fuel that forms when dead plant matter is converted into peat, which in turn is converted into lignite, then sub-bituminous coal, after that bituminous coal, and lastly anthracite. This involves biological and geological processes. The geological processes take place over millions of years.

Together with your team, arrange the processes from step 1 to 20.
YOU'VE GOT 10 MINUTES TO FINISH THE TASK.
HOW SLTEC GENERATES POWER
Coal Handling and Storage
1. Coal is delivered by coal vessels to SLTEC.
2. Coal is transferred from vessels via coal clamp buckets to covered conveyor systems for storage.
3. Coal is segregated per batch/delivery inside the coal yard(first in/first out basis)
4. Coal is blended to yield best mixture, and transferred into underground conveyor systems.
5. Coal is crushed to a desirable size inside the crusher house, and is transferred to coal bunkers.
Water treatment System and Circulating Water System
1. Water is sourced from the Balayan Bay and is filtered from trash, marine animals, among others.
2. Sea water is filtered and is circulated for condenser cooling (condensation of steam) and for other equipment cooling.
3. Water used for cooling the system passes through the cooling bay before being led back to Balayan Bay.
4. Part of the sourced water is demineralized and stored.
5. Demineralized water is circulated in the boiler to produce superheated steam.
6. Superheated steam drives turbine which is coupled with generator.
7. Generator convert mechanical energy to electricity.
Combustion Process
1. Crushed mixed coal is fed to the boiler furnace through coal feeders.
2. Coal is burned with the help of hot bed material(sand) inside the furnace
3. Unburnt coal and coarser material is captured and returned by cyclone separators to furnace for higher combustion efficiency
4. Limestone is added to the boiler furnace for sulfur dioxide emission control.
5. Fly ash (byproduct of burning coal) is captured by the Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) and is stored in fly ash silo.
6. Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) monitor emissions to ensure it passes DENR parameters.
7. Filtered gasses exit through the smokestack
8. Fly ash collected in silos is sold to cement companies.
9. Bottom ash is transported and managed at the Ash Management Facility.
WHERE DO SLTEC SOURCE ITS COAL?
COMMON THERMAL ENERGY SOURCES INCLUDE:
THERMAL

SO... HOW DO YOU DO IT?
LATER.
SO, DO YOU THINK YOU GOT IT ALL RIGHT?
LET'S FIND OUT...
It is used to produce SUPERHEATED STEAM for generation; and for system cooling.

270,000 HOMES
1MWh is enough to sustain 1,000 homes consuming 1KW of energy in 1 hour.
With the help of hot bed material, coal is burned at 700 degrees Celsius.
HOW MANY HOUSES CAN 270MW OF ELECTRICITY POWER?
Demineralized Water is circulated in the boiler to produce superheated steam. The steam powers the turbine which is coupled with the generator.
The generator converts mechanical energy to electricity.
Crushed mixed coal is fed to the furnace through coal feeders.
ASH
Unburnt coal is captured and returned by cyclone separators to furnace.
HOW SLTEC GENERATES POWER
WATER TREATMENT AND CIRCULATING WATER SYSTEM
Water used for cooling passes through the cooling bay before being led back to Balayan Bay.
`
Seawater is drawn out of Balayan Bay and is filtered for condenser and equipment cooling.
Coal is transferred from the vessel via coal clamp buckets.
COAL HANDLING AND STORAGE
COAL arrives to SLTEC through coal vessels
Coal is segregated inside the coal yard, and is blended to yield best mixture. It is then moved by heavy equipment into underground conveyor systems that lead them to the crusher house where it is crushed to a desirable size.
Coal is moved via covered conveyor systems to the coal yard.
Marubeni through Axia Power Holdings Philippines Corporation acquired 20% stake in SLTEC.
In January 2019, following the investment of Ayala Corporation to PHINMA Energy, AC Energy Holdings Inc. acquired controlling stake in SLTEC.
