The tell-Tale heart
Analysis
From the tell-tale heart, i infer that Poe created a story that wraps around a persons sanity being controlled by their emotion and paranoia. He adds a bleak setting to set the tone of the story, a violent incident, psychological torment, and supernatural elements to the story to make it a Gothic horror.
Characters in psychological and/ or physical torment
bleak and Remote setting
Supernatural or otherworldly elements
Macabre violent incident
The tell-tale heart has a supernatural element to it because there is no way that the narrator could see in the pitch black room when the old man couldn't. He would need night vision eyes that would let him do that.
There is a violent incident in the tell-tale heart. It was when the narrator killed the old man and dismembered his body; it's a horrifying act to think about.
The narrator in tell-tale heart has a psychological torment when the police men go into the crime scene and the narrator starts to hear a dead mans heart beat. Logically speaking, there should be no way that the narrator would hear a heart beat coming from someone that's dead.
The tell-tale heart takes place in an old mans house. It is bleak because it is simple and barren. there was nothing fancy about this man's house.
The tell-tale heart
short summary
A narrator starts the story by explain that he isn't mad and he wants to prove it by explaining his story. He begins by talking about an old man he took care of that had a creepy pale blue eye. he said it gave him chills and made him uncomfortable. he comes to the conclusion that he has to kill him. The narrator went to the old mans room every night and made sure he was quiet. For some reason he decides that one night was the perfect night to kill the man. Surprisingly the old man sits up on the bed and is wide awake. He hears someone in the room and is frightened. The narrator remained calm because he knew the old man couldn't see in the pitch black room. He heard a loud thumping noise that came from the old mans heart; worried that the neighbors could hear it he quickly killed the old man. The old man shrieks and dies. He pried the wood flooring and puts the old mans dismembered body parts underneath them. He puts back the floor like nothing had happened.
The next day, the narrator hears a knock on the door and it's the police. They said they had come because a neighbor heard a loud shriek that night before. The policemen searched the house and they weren't suspicious at all. they even went into the crime scene and had a chat. The narrator wasn't nervous at all but, he started to hear a quiet thumping of the old mans heart crescendo and eventually got so loud that he thought the police men were just mocking him at this point. The narrator confessed of his murder and pries the wooden floorboard and reveals the old mans body.
