There are about two million discovered species and they have all been classified into one of the 5 kingdoms, which are the animal kingdom, the plant kingdom, kingdom fungi , kingdom monera, and the kingdom protista.
The word plant is from the latin word Plantae. Plants like animals live on land and in water. Plants were on earth even before animals. They are about 260,000 species. There are certain characteristics that distinguish a plant from other organisms in other groups like they can not move, they create their own food, they need water and sunlight to survive, their cell walls are made of a material called cellulose, and they have chlorophyll which is important for photosynthesis and it makes the plants green. some plants leaves fall during autumn.
The word fungi came from the latin word fungus. Fungi cells have cell walls that are mostly made of carbohydrates. Fungi are heterotrophs which means they rely on other food sources. They can be parasitic. Fungi live in the water, on land, and on plants and on animals, they are vital to our everyday world. Fungi in the soil determine the type of plant and the animals that will live there. Fungis can be multi or unicellular. Surprisingly fungis can reproduce. Mycologist scientists specialize in studying fungi. A common type of fungus are the mushrooms on pizza which is called Agaricus bisporus.
The word Monera came from the latin word Moneran. Kingdom monera consists of organisms that are unicellular and that have no nucleus, so they lack most of the things found in other life form cells. Monerans can be autotrophs or heterotrophs and their cells are surrounded by a thick cell wall. Kingdom Monera includes of organisms such as bacteria and blue green algae. Monerans are believed to be the ancestors of all the other types of life that have since evolved. Bacteria makes up 50% of the kingdom.
Latin name: Marasmius Oreades.
Latin name: Pediastrum boryanum.
Common name: Fairy Ring Mushroom
Latin name: Prokaryote

Latin name: Amanita Rubescens.
Latin name: Psychotria nervosa.
Latin name: Schefflera arboricola.
Common name: bacteria
Common name: Blusher
Common name: Dwarf Umbrella Tree
Common name: Wild Coffee
The word protist came from the latin word Protista. Protist are more evolved than monerans because they can be multi and unicellular, secondly their cells have a nucleus, their cells lack cell walls, and they can be autotrophic and heterotrophic. The kingdom of protist consists protozoans, slime molds and many more organisms.
The word animal came from the latin word animalia, which means having breath. The animal kingdom is the most diverse kingdom and it's a major group in the multicellular group because the kingdom consists of over two million animal species that live on land, in water, in the soil and in the air around us also, animals can be microscopic. Animals have certain characteristics that set them apart from other organisms, for example they reproduce to increase their numbers, they are mobile, and they are heterotrophs. Animals can change to fit into their environment or a new environment. This is called adaptation. Two examples of animals is a lion and a bird. The word lion came from the latin name leo and the latin name for the word bird is avis.
Latin name: Mastigophora
Latin name: Euglena gracilis.
Latin name: Emberiza bruniceps
Common name: red headed bunting
Latin name: Leo
Common name: lion cub

Taxonomy is for helping people understand life. Scientists use the tree of life to classify organisms. Carl Linnaeus was the first person to start classifying life. The first classification came in people used to group organisms by things that appear the same but come from different origins. We still organize things the way Carl Linnaeus used to. the order of classification is life, species, genus, family, order, class, phylum, kingdom, and domain.
