Interesting Saola facts

Saola go into herds of up to 7 animals.

What are humans doing to help?

They have many names, including Pseudoryx Nghetinhensis, Vu Quang Ox, Sao La, Suo Duong, and Yang.

They were recently discovered, no Saola are alive in captivity.

Some organizations are trying to make hunting of the Saola illegal so that they can do more research on the Saola, and put them into captivity.

How did the Saola become Endangered?

If the saola become

extinct, it wont affect humans, but orginizations like the WWF are interested in bringing them back from being endangered.

The Saola live in forests located on the Annamite Mountains in Vietnam. and thier habitat has a long rainy season so they have a good source of water and vegetables.

The Saola were discovered in 1992 and there haven't been many spottings of them. Also, their population was estimated to be somewhere in-between only 70, and 700 of them.

From the tip of their snout to their very back, Saola are approximately 1.5 meters.

From the shoulder down, grown saola are usually in the range of 80-90 cm.

Their tails are about 25 cm.

Adult Saola weigh around 100 kg
