Demand for Designers in the mass market and everyday wear is always fairly high, but it is hard to become a famous, well-known designer.

Advancement: There is not a lot of room for advancement in this career, but many new designers often work with experienced designers to gain more knowledge, experience and possibly a more advanced position, like a design department head or chief designer.

Working Conditions

Where Someone in this Career Works: Fashion Designers can work almost anywhere, however most designers are centered in New York and California.

Hours: Depending on the designer, some work full time and some work part time. Freelance designers tend to work longer hours and adjust their schedule to their customer's schedule. They sometimes work continuously for long periods of time in order to meet a deadline or prepare for a fashion show.
