Conferences

Paolucci attended various conferences. Among them were

  • 4-H National Workshop 1975
  • XIIIth Congress of the International Federation for Home Economics 1976
  • 1970 White House Conference on Children
  • Needs and Resources in Early Childhood Education and Child Care 1971

Paolucci was a professor at Michigan State University for more than twenty-five years. She was a leader in the study of the family and home as central components of the human ecosystem.

She believed that matter, energy and information entered into the family through transactions with the environment and argued that the decisions and actions of individual families have an impact on society, culture and the natural built of environments.

Along with personal articles an books Paolucci took on international projects of Nigeria, East Africa and Thailand.

During her life time, Paolucci wrote or co-wrote four books and numerous articles.

She received many honors, some of which where; a 1968 MSU Distinguished Faculty Award, a 1981 Osbourne Teaching Award from the National Council of Family Relations, a 1975 Distinguished Alumni Award from Illinois Wesleyan University, and a 1981 Distinguished Faculty Women’s award from MSU..

Paolucci died of cancer on October 1, 1983 in Illinois.

In her honor, Michigan State University changed the name of the Home Management Building to what is now known as the Paolucci Building.

Beatrice Paolucci was a guest lecturer at Texas Christian University and the University of Missouri, and was also the first Camilla Eyring Kimball Chair of Home and Family Life at Brigham Young University.

However, Paolucci made contributions in many areas of education and research to academic and other various programs in the United States as well as around the world.

Childhood

Beatrice Paolucci was born August 13, 1920 in Ladd Illinois.

Barely the age of two, Beatrice contracted infantile paralysis (polio). There were very few treatments at the time and as a result she underwent some physical limintaions through her life. However, Beatrice did not consider herself handicapped, she was not.

She is remembered for her contribution to the profession of Human Ecology.

Human ecology- is an interdisciplinary and trans- disciplinary study of the relationship between humans and their natural, social, and built environments.

Paolucci was a dedicated teacher as well as renowned scholar. She was twice named MSU distinguished faculty member.
