How are they remembered?

Contributions/Achievements

He is remembered as Australia's first bricklayer and builder who had contributed and is responsible for most of the colony's buildings. James was offered rehabilitation to England but he refused.

He was also offered a chance to be employed at Port Phillip of the Derwent but refused again because he had grown to love Sydney. James Bloodsworth had made many good contributions toward building settlements in Australia which is why he was an important figure.

190 years later, the "Building Industry Connection's Trade Tool Awards" was named in honour of James Bloodsworth. A builder, leader and a man with good intentions. He also became a sergeant in the Sydney Loyal Assosiation which was a great mark of respect to a previous convict.

Since he was one of the best bricklayers and builders in Europe which is the reason he was a master bricklayer in Australia and was responsible for the construction of many buildings in the colony between 1788 and 1800. James Bloodsworth worked on the Government House and the barracks for the Offices and Marines. Governor Arthur Phillip had praised about the way that he taught others how to be a bricklayer and the pains of it.

Since he had put a lot of effort towards establishing a settlement in Sydney, he was recognized for his contribution and was pardoned along with 50 acres of land.

What are they known for?

James was sentenced with seven years transportation and theft of two hens at Esher, UK. He was mostly known for the design and erection of Australia's first buildings and had started brick making for the Colony at Cockle Bay, near Darling Harbour in March 1788. He was the first settlement builder of Australia and it has been recorded that Bloodsworth was the colony's first builder of note.

He built private homes, a storehouse, and Kings Wharf in 1790.

Where do they work?

James' occupation was a bricklayer and builder who was taken on to Australia in the First Fleet where he was assigned to be a bricklayer in Sydney Cove. He worked on many of Australia first buildings where he was largely responsible for the design of them.
