a.k.a. contingent workforce/insourced workers

  • Paid by the hour or day for short periods

Pros:

Core workers

- Motivated and productive because they are well paid.

- Have a high level of job security

- Are very important

The Third Leaf:

Outsourced Workers

- The first leaf is made up of full-time workers

- They are important for the operations, survival, and growth of the business

- In teleworking and e-commerce, core management is becoming smaller

Individuals and businesses that are not employed by the organization, but are paid to complete certain tasks; external help.

a.k.a. contractual fringe

eg. Managers and technicians

e.g. Marketing agencies can be hired to produce a slogan or logo

e.g. Freelance workers, subcontractors, self-employed

  • usually hired for specialized skills, and paid by results
