True Confessions of a

Heartless Girl

Summary

The book the True Confessions of a Heartless Girl is a book for all ages, it combines love, anger, caring and sadness into one excellent book.

The main character Noreen lives with her married stepsister Gladys at the beginning of the book. She was treated fairly there and had a good life. Her life began to turn when she then moved in with her boyfriend Wesley. When she lived with Wesley she did barely anything mostly just sat in bed. Then later on after she lived with Wesley for a bit she started to steal his money and go buy things without his permission. He found out and got pissed, and Noreen feels like she has to run away so she steals his truck and money and runs off to Pembina Lake. Where she goes to a Café meets Lynda, who runs the business, which doesn’t make a lot of money. So then Lynda feels bad for her and lets her stay in her house. Next morning Mary and Delores are there and sees that she is depressed and wonders why Lynda lets a stranger stay in her house. So Delores speaks to her and gives her some advice to try to make her happy. Noreen gives Seth’s dog a chicken bone, which almost kills him. Noreen calls her boyfriend and says she is in Pembina Lake. Wesley comes and talks to her and takes most the money back but leaves her with some. Del lends her the house she catches it on fire, so then she just ends up living back at Lynda’s house. She then talks Lynda into working at the Café and giving Delores a break, since she is older.

Noreen finds out that she is pregnant and then contemplates on calling her boyfriend Wesley whose baby it also is. Then she finally does and he comes out to Pembina Lake to see her. They have feelings again for each other but Noreen doesn’t know what she wants to do yet. Noreen then later has pains, goes to doctors and learns that she has had a miscarriage. Noreen then ruins the wall in the café and also ruins the roof, so then she helps Del fix it and realizes that Del is in love with Lynda. Later that night Lynda is in her room depressed so then Noreen goes up and talks to her and try to talk her into getting together with Del, she doesn’t respond. So later the next morning Lynda announces she is moving. After the point we really don’t know what happens to them in the long run. We just find out that the main Character Noreen finally faces her fears in life, without backing away from them.

Del

Del is a farmer who is very helpful and nice, he is always at Lynda’s Café trying to help out, and will do anything that Lynda wants him to do.

Del is now haunted with his brother’s death, he carry’s the secret of guilt and shame that it was his fault that his brother passed away.

Delores

Delores is a caring and nice woman in the book, she also helps Lynda run the Café, and she tries to help Noreen face her fears and become a strong-hearted teenager.

Delores also has some troubles in her past life she is trying to cope with her daughter’s death last summer.

Lynda

Lynda is the owner of the café, at Pembina Lake, which isn’t earning a lot of money. She is a single parent, who has a son named Seth. She is a helpful, caring person who would help anyone who needs it. She is the one who helped Noreen when she had no where to stay. She didn’t even know Noreen when she did this but her warm-hearted self, knew it was the right thing to do.

Lynda doesn’t know what she wants to do with her life, and doesn’t know if she wants to keep running the company. She has a lot of things she needs to think about before she gives away the company, or moves, because she has a lot of friends and family their who care about her.

Seth

Seth is Lynda’s son, who is a very nice young boy, who owns a dog, whom he takes care of. Seth always wants to be outside playing with someone, so he is a very athletic person. Seth is a very caring person for his mother, and new people that come into his life.

Noreen

Noreen is a depressed 17-year old girl who doesn’t know how to face her fears at the beginning of the book; she just keeps running away from them. She causes trouble everywhere she goes, she set the house that she borrowed from Del on fire, almost killed the family dog, and also became pregnant.

She is a very independent and stubborn girl, who doesn’t like to listen to what people think she should do. She doesn’t like to help out that much, but she always has to when she gets into trouble. She first helps Del fix the house she ruins, then helps fixes the café which she also damaged.

Noreen compares to the character Holden in the book, The Catcher and the Rye, they both have the same theme between characters during the duration of the book, they both are coming to age with their actions. Noreen comes to age because at first she just runs away from all her problems and never actually faces them. At first she runs away from her married step-sisters house, to her boyfriends, then she runs away from their with his truck and money, then she comes to Lynda’s where she starts to slowly face her fears, and come a totally new person. Holden does the same thing he isn’t good at school he is only good at English, he runs away from school. Then just decides what he is going to do day to day nothing is planned ahead, he stays at his old teacher’s house, and then he finally goes and visits his sister Pheobe. Then he finally realizes that he has to do something with his life, which he decides to do. Holden and Noreen both finally realize they have to decide what to do with their life without both running away from their problems.

I chose to do a Music Video on Heartless by Kayne West, because it explains a girl being so heartless to him, and explains how he is treated and it relates to Noreen who is heartless to what she does to other people, so what he thinks relates how the other characters think of Noreen.

This song Heartless is Kayne West speaking about a heartless girl. The thing he says relates to Noreen, she is a very heartless person in the book, she doesn’t care about other people. She only uses people when she needs them at the beginning of the book. By the end of the book she is starting to realize that she is not a very nice person, and she has to start treating people nicer. Noreen is a lonely girl who doesn’t like to face her fears, cause she first runs away from her married step-sisters house, then her boyfriends, then she goes to Lynda’s and at different points she almost runs away cause she was scared to face her fears. By the end of the book she was a new person, and nothing to do with the song, she became a new teenager whom cared about everyone and learned to face her fears.
