Diagnosis

Vitals

After a Neurological exam:

Elevated left leg knee reflex, left Babinski sign, Left lower extremity paralysis and loss of pain/temperature sensation in his right leg

All indicate damage to the Central Nervous System

Problem

(Background Info)

BP: 103/52 (lower)

Pulse: 108 beats/min(higher)

Respiratory rate: 24 breaths/min (higher)

Treatment Options

Clinical Treatments

Football Fanaticism

Anterolateral Spinothalamic tract lesion

Period:3

1)Debridement to remove excess foreign objects

2) Flush wound with sterile solution to clean the lesion

3)Reconstructive surgery (plastic surgery to fix wounded tissue)

*(Skin graft may be needed upon tissue damage)

4)Suture the wounded area

Even if surgery cannot reverse damage to the spinal cord, surgery may be needed to stabilize the spine to prevent future pain or deformity.

-The surgeon decides which procedure will provide the greatest benefit to the patient.

-IV insulin to raise the blood glucose level of 534 mg/dL

-Give patient steroids to lower inflammation caused by the bullet

  • Babinski sign- lack of coordination and muscle control, weakness.
  • Elevated left leg knee reflex-(patellar reflex)is the sudden kicking movement of the lower leg in response to a sharp tap on the patellar tendon, which lies below the kneecap.
  • Left lower extremity paralysis-loss of movement in the lower left side of the body, meaning the patient can feel no sensation in this region of the body.
  • Loss of pain/temperature sensation in his right leg- Due to the gunshot, our patient received damages to the nerve pathways responsible for receiving, transmitting, or processing external stimuli.

Pharmacological Treatments

Conclusion(Summary)

Alternative Treatments

  • Elevated left knee jerk:
  • regular icing
  • use of a compression bandage and keeping the affected leg elevated
  • last phase is getting back to running.
  • Quadraciep stretches

Jimmy Jam came into the E.R with a gun-shot wound and was treated properly. The foreign object was removed from the body with clean margins, and the wound was sutured.Anti-innflammatories were prescribed to prevent infection,as well as alternative treatments.

  • Paralysis-can not be treated with medication
  • If patient is born with a babinski sign, there is a chance for the symptom to disappear. The sign is present due to the injury so there is no medication or treatment to reverse its effect.
  • Inflammation from bullet wound- Solumedrol
  • No damage to the internal organs; broad spectrum antibiotics given for infection prevention
