For our print media, we had to create a CD set and tour poster to advertise our chosen artist. We took inspiration from our artists' existing work; his first studio album 'The Ladder' was named after the first song on the album. As we had chosen to create a video for the song 'Make It Without You' (from the same album), we changed the name of the album to that instead, which means that we were able to use stills from our video within the CD set.
We ended up created a front and back cover with two inside panel as well as a booklet to slot inside the CD with lyrics to the songs on the album; a convention we recognized during research. In this booklet we used stills of each character; Anne, Stan and Emily, with lyrics to a different song each time as well as more creative, abstract shots which still tie in; the stain glass windows of a church and the silhouettes of a countryside setting.
To instill yet more continuity, we decided to use the same actor for our chosen artist; Andrew Belle, in our video and print media. Even though our actors face is not seen in our video; only his hands playing the piano, he is seen on our tour poster. The main reason for this would be so that an audience would be able to recognize our products and that of the artist; it is extremely common for artists to feature in their own videos, either as a performance element and as a character and for them to be seen on their own tour poster.
In terms of our preliminary project, if we had used the same actors there would have been a better link between the three pieces of work but still, complete faces were seen which corroborates with our tour poster.
" the result that arises from an interacting process"
Synergy refers to the common aspects across all of our work; moving image and print media. It can include to colour schemes we have used, actors and themes; anything that make our products recognizable to an audience.
Within our video, we have used a colour scheme to represent a time and feeling. We have used flashbacks to show the initial equilibrium when both protagonists were happy and with their partners. Since these were happy times, we decided to keep this footage in colour and everything else; the present day, black and white. Black and white has been a running theme thought out as the majority of our video has this effect but also our CD set uses this scheme. The aim of our video was to evoke emotion and empathy and therefore we decided this colour scheme was fitting as it emphasized the tone of the video. Furthermore, our preliminary project was set into black and white, which even though unintentional, fit with the rest of our work
