The Roman Room Method.

How can it be applied?

There are two basic approaches to using this method but it works the same way in either case. You can create either imaginary Roman Rooms or Roman Rooms based on a known physical location.

The Roman Room Method: An ancient mnemonic technique.

Creating your own memory place.

The Roman Room Method: a powerful tool.

The method, was originally created by ancient Greeks, and later on it was taken over by the Romans, who slightly transformed it. It combines the use of organization, visual imagery and association.

1. Decide on a blueprint for your place.

2. Define a route.

3. Identify specific storage locations.

4. Memorize it.

5. Place the things you want to remember.

6. Use symbols.

7. Be creative.

8. Stock your place with other mnemonics.

9. Explore it.

10. Use it.

The Roman Room Method is based on the formation of associations between well-known elements and those we want to remember. It is ideal for memorizing short list of items, up to 10 of them.

A little bit of history.

Simonides was called the inventor of the Roman Room (originally known as method of Loci). In his time, many people memorized long poems and would recite them at social gatherings.
