Claudette was a 15-year-old girl who had been the first person arrested in 1955 for refusing to give up her seat on a Montgomery bus, nine months before Rosa Parks' action.
Although Claudette Colvin was the first person to resist arrest, Rosa Parks got all the credit. Montgomery's black leaders did not acknowledge Colvin's effort because she was a teenager and became pregnant while unmarried, which was looked down upon at the time.
Claudette was one of five plaintiffs in the Browder v. Gayle Case. This is the case that ended bus segregation. Claudette told the story of her arrest, and many people call her the stand out plaintiff. After the case, she moved to New York to find a job to support her son.

This is the final judgement in the case Browder v. Gayle. I thought this was a good primary document for my project.
Claudette didn't get much credit for her act to help the Civil Rights Movement at the time. Though Colvin was the "spark" that may have ignited the Montgomery Bus Boycott movement, she rarely told her story once she moved to New York City. Colvin has often said that she is not angry she did not get the recognition she deserved, but instead disappointed.
