The Hunger Games Hero Journey

Road of Trials

The Call to Adventure

This is where the Hero goes through a series of tests and obstacles that make them stronger, preparing for "The final Battle". In the Hunger Games there are many parts of the road of trials. One would be the testing before the games actually start. They are training for the actual games. This in the end makes them a stronger because they get to know what their competition is like and what they need to work on/what they have down pretty well. Another would be when when the tracker Jackers attack the contestants. They may have got through a lot of pain at the time but afterwords this made them much stronger and ready to face whatever else would be thrown at them.

The Call to adventure is when the hero is presented with a problem, challenge, or adventure to undertake. This is when he or she can no longer live in the comfort of the ordinary world. In the Hunger Games The Call to Adventure takes place when Katniss "Volunteers as tribute" When her sister Prim is drawn for the annual Hunger games. This would also be considered stepping over the threshold. Katniss is confronted with a challenge as well as an adventure and will with no doubt live in the midst of her ordinary life any longer

Mentor/Guide/Companion

The function of a Mentor is to prepare the hero to face the unknown. They usually give advice, guidance or hints on how to succeed. However the Mentor can only go so far with the hero. Eventually the hero will have to go off on there own and face the unknown alone.

The mentor in the Hunger Games is Haymitch. He guides Katniss as well as Peeta through the unknown and gives them advice and guidance throughout their journey. Haymitch is especially their when they are drawn into the Hunger Games, he comforts them but is harsh to prepare them for the road ahead. Unfortuantely, before the actual games start Haymitch has to leave Katniss and Peetas side and let them take on the unknown alone,

Hr 2

The coming home scene is when the hero has fulfilled his or her journey and finallly gets to return home. In the Hunger Games this is when they go to the interview, they have won the games and will soon return home. At this interview they get asked questions abou the games and how they get through them. This is the final stretch before they will go home. Though this will be going back home their lifes have been changed greatly and will never be the same.

The "Final Battle"

Success/Fulfillment

Supernatural Aid

A supernatural aid is a type of help given to the hero that will make them wiser and stronger. This can be a weapon, information, or something else that helps the hero.

Success and fulfillment is pretty self explanatory. This when the hero or hero's win the battle they have been training for for such a long time. Katniss and Peeta feel success and fulfillment when they overthrow the governments rules and for the first time ever get two people to win the games. Winning the games alone is a big success as well

Katniss's supernatural aid is her bow. She is very talented at using her bow and this takes her a long way throughout her journey. Katniss is often know for her bow and the skills it brings upon her.

The Final Battle

The final battle is the biggest task that the hero must face. This is what they have been training all working for the whole time, this moment. This battle is a very big deal and is a key to their destiny. The final battle in the Hunger Games is when only Peeta, Katniss and Cato are left. They need to kill him in order for one of them to win the Hunger Games. After they kill Cato it is a plus that the Capitol said that two people can win, so the final battle was over and they both had one.
