There are different types of barriers that people might go through while trying to moving to another country. Here are 3 like personal, national, and legal barriers. Lets get started!
But before we get started, we should probably tell you guys what barriers are...
Barriers: barriers are something that may discourge or prevent a person from migrating.
The thought of leaving family, friends and loved ones knowing that you might not see them again is very hard on a person and a big emotional barrier.
As much it is difficult for people moving away from friends and relatives they also have to deal with the expense of immigration. Immigration is very expensive and many people can't afford applications, entry visas, and airplane tickets.
entry visas: a document that grants
a person the legal right to immigrate to
a country.
Immigrants often need a sponsor in the new country to give them good advice and help them in financial support until they find a job.
We have just discussed with you guys the first barrier that people can go through while immigrating.. the personal barrier. Now lets move on to the second barrier which is.....
Policy: government laws and regulations that may create a barrier to immigration
Example of that is, a command society may not let people leave the country.
This was what happened in Russia and Easter Europe between 1945 and 1989 but nowadays it's quite different.
Before the year 1967, Canada accepted very few immigrants from regions other than Europe and the United States. In that same year a points system was establish and introduced to immigrants almost like a report card.
This is what the scoring on the test would look like.
This test was based on language skills in English or French, education and useful work experience, age and sponsorship by residents.
If you know any family members or friends that moved from a different country to Canada they would have probably taken the same test.
Here is a pie graph showing you the total immigrants from 1960 to 1980.
So far we have told you guys the first 2 barriers people can go through while moving to another country.. personal and national barriers and now moving on to the last barrier, which is.....
In 1951, the UN expanded these statements in the Convention Relating to the Status of Refugee. When refugee come to Canada, they are under the declare of refugee status under the Convention. They are allowed to stay in Canada until their case is expressed to a legal hearing.
On a average of 15 000 and 50 000 refugees are accepted into Canada each year and half of them claim refugee status.
To successful refugees, Canada is accessible which means in terms of migration, when a person is able to gain entry to their desired destination.
The others that aren't accepted have to leave Canada, but it is free for them to re-apply under the same or another immigration category.
Those were just 3 barriers that people might go through while immigrating to another country to live a better life and happy life in the country they move to. There are much more barriers but those were just 3 to name. But before we go we would like to show you a very short video about immigration...

Thank you for listening to our presentation on barriers to migration. Hopeful you were paying attention because now you have to do a worksheet... YAY!! ENJOY!
Migration within and between countries is regulated by international law. The United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights includes freedom rights of movement. It mentions how everyone has the right to freedom and movement within the borders of each state and has the right to leave any country including their own.
The 2 big major factors that are involved with the national barrier to migration are physical and political. Two countries may be located very far apart or there may be separation by the two because of mounties or deserts. Physical separation makes it more dangerous, difficult or costly to migrate. The greatest national barrier to overcome is political policy.
Do you know what it would be like to move to another country and learn a entire new language. This is one of the huge personal barriers of immigrating to another country. Immigration is a huge risk for someone that is stating up a whole new life in a whole new country.
