Tropical Evergreen Forest

In Conclusion...

The tropical evergreen forest is a unique and fascinating biome in both its flora and fauna, and certainly deserves to be protected at any cost, because I think it would be tragic if generations ahead we lived in a world without the highly accoladed rainforest that I myself grew up curious about.

Threats to the Forest

The evergreen tropical forest's are a successfully self sustaining biome with one major threat; deforestation. Millions of trees and miles of these forest's are cut down per year, reducing the habitat size and forcing the already crowded animals to pack together even more. Efforts are being made to protect the forests, but unfortunetly not everyone is concerned.

Animal life in the forest

With one of the highest quantities of different animal species', it's hard to narrow it down to specifics, but there are some common attributes of all of them. Between the animals populous in this region, they often have adaptations to an arboreal life, as well as fruit based diets, loud vocalizations, and bright colors and distinctive patterns.

Plant life in the forest

The flora in the tropical evergreen forest has a distinct system. There are layers to the growth of trees, with each species adapted to their layer. For instance, the tallest trees, the A layer, are 100-120 feet tall, and have smaller leaves or can be deciduous during the dry season that normally arises. Many tropical trees include broad woody bottoms that help channel dissolved nutrients and stem flow, and among the C layer especially, large leaves are prominent.

Who lives here?

With no annual rhythm to the forest, each species has developed its own flowering and fruiting seasons. It's warm year round, and has consistent rain fall making it habitable for millions of species.

Home to the widest diversity of species, the tropical evergreen forests account for 7% of the planet, and are located in the following.
