First Fleet Convicts: William Buckley

History

Buckley was born in Martin,Cheshire,England, 1776. His mum is Eliza Buckley. William Buckley had two sister's and one brother. Buckley became a convicted because he was holding a 'stolen' piece of cloth and passing it to a woman.Just like many convicts they needed clothes and food but have no other way of getting their needs, so they had to steal.

Buckley died in what we now call Hobart, Tasmania, 30th January. The cause of his death was because he fell off his gig. (He was old when he died).

Later John Morgan wrote a book about the adventures of William Buckley. William became a famous convict due to his great escape.

Because of Buckley's braveness and adventures we now developed a saying that people would say: "You'd have to have Buckley's chance to do that!"
