Austen's Personal Romance

Jane began to explore her talent as a writer in her adolescent years. Her early projects revealed her talent as a writer, her wit, and her talent for parody.

  • "Love and Friendship"
  • "The History of England"
  • Born to George and Cassandra Austen in Hampshire, England
  • Her family stressed the importance of learning and creativity. Her Oxford educated father owned a library of over 500 books.
  • Went away to boarding school, but only experienced this formal education for a short period of time (5 years).

  • Jane writes to her sister, Cassandra--
