Karinne's eyes were dull and glassy. Being sick, she was tired, cold, and very lonely. She slept soundly until her sister, Maria, stomped in and blamed her for stealing her shirt. She yelled, making Karinne wince.
Their tired mom walked into the room, trying to find out what was going on. Because of her lack of sleep, she had black bags under her eyes and looked as if she were about to fall asleep on the floor. She stopped the fighting and then went to her room to go back to bed.

The Girl Who Drank the moon is a sci-fi novel. It is about a girl named Luna and a witch named Xan. Luna becomes "enmagicked" and Xan has to protect her from the horrors that come with magic. The village that Luna was from sacrifices babies to the witch every year so that she won't destroy their home. The witch is kind, but the people don't know that. Luna was one of the babies that was sacrificed.
Celleste's heart skipped and jumped as she looked at her perfect test score. It was like the whole world was surrounding her. She smiled proudly as she put the test away.
When Celleste got home, she showed her mom her test and her mom smiled the widest Celleste had ever seen someone smile. She was so proud, her smile lines were as deep as the bottom of the ocean. Celleste's test was always remembered as one of her best days ever.
