Main Events Continued

  • First they had to get 2 crawlers to fill the "Prophecy of Grey", temp and tick volunteered because they thought Boots was their princess.

  • Next they have to get 2 spinners for their quest so they go to the spinner region.

  • The spinners do not get along with the humans so the capture them and keep them as prisoner.

  • Gregor and the team devise a plan to escape, and it works.

  • Vikus needs to leave the quest to defend the palace from the rats, so he leaves them in the hands of Ripred who no one trust because he is a rat.
  • Once they reach the borders of the rat region 2 spinners Gox and Treflex join the quest, but Treflex dies as soon as the meet up with the group and he is the first of 4 to die.

  • Henry attempts to kill Ripred when he is asleep. Fails because Ripred defends himself.

  • They move foreword entering the rat territory but get attacked and Tick holds of the rats so they can escape but she ends up dying.

  • When they reach the rat palace they see Gregors dad but he is sick and scrawny because the rats kept him as a slave.

Theme

The theme of "Gregor the Overlander" is sometimes you don't have to go looking for adventure, adventure finds you. This is shown at the beginning of the book when Gregor was only doing laundry in the laundry room, when a mysterious mist took him and Boots into the Underland. Gregor was not looking for away to get away from his boring life but the adventure found him and changed his life forever.

  • Because of the attack many of the humans of the Underland and their bats are hurt or dead.

  • Vikus knows that Gregor is the warrior in the "Prophecy of Grey", so he reads it to him.

  • All of the people talked about in the "Prophecy of Grey" gather to start the quest. They already have the overs, unders, and fliers.

  • Right as they were going to leave the palace the rats attacked so they had to leave immediately.

Minor Characters

  • Ripred: A rat, knows a lot about the Overland, becomes leader of the quest once they reach rat territory, only rat they trust.

  • Henry: Cousins with Luxa, betrayed everyone by joining the rats.

  • Dulcet: Servant, takes care of the nursery, so she helped with Boots.

  • Gregor's dad: Never tells his name, fell down to the Underland 2 years, 7 months, and 13 days ago when the book started. Disapeard leaving family alone.

Main events Continued

  • The king rat appeared and killed Gox by swinging his tail and cutting him in half. Gox was the 3rd out of 4 too die.

  • Henry decides to go along with the rats which was his plan all along.

  • Like the prophecy said Gregor had to take a leap so when the rats were chasing him he leaped of the side of the cliff to save the rest of the team.

  • Henry was the 4th to die and he had to decide where he stood which is what the "Prophecy of Grey said and he chose to be with the rats.

Gregor the Overlander

Setting

  • Overland (New York): At the beginning the book starts with Gregor and his family at his house in New York.

  • Underland: Most of the book takes place in the city of Regalia or other parts of the Underland.

Main Characters

  • Gregor: An 11-year old boy who falls into the Underland, friendly, humorous, afraid of heights.

  • Boots: Gregors 2-year old sister who also falls into the Underland with him. brave, very social,the crawlers call her princess.

  • Luxa: lives in the Underland, next Queen of Underland. cold, not very friendly, violet eyes.

  • Vikus: King of Underland, Luxa's grandfather, married to Queen Solovet. Nice, leader of quest.

"Prophecy of Grey"

The genre of "Gregor the Overlander" is fantasy. Some examples of fantasy in this book are,

  • Multiple lands/worlds
  • creatures with minds that are able to think and create battle strategies

"Beware, Underlanders, time hangs by a thread.

The hunters are hunted, white water runs red.

The gnawers are sent to extinguish the rest.

The hope of the hopeless resides in a quest.

  • Gregor and boots fall into a vent in the laundry room.
  • Once they get to the ground a group of Crawlers find them and take them to the stadium.
  • He meets Luxa and she decides to take him to the palace for protection.
  • Gregor knows that they need to get back to the Overland, so he escapes.
  • Luxa finds Gregor and Boots being attacked by 2 rats named Shed and Fangor.

An Overlander Warrior, a son of the sun,

May bring us back light, he may bring us back none.

But gather your neighbors and follow his call

or rats will most surely devour us all.

12 will go and 8 will come back 4 will die.

Main Events Continued

Two over, two under, of royal descent,

Two fliers, two crawlers, two spinners assent.

One gnawer beside and one lost up ahead.

And eight will be left when we count up the dead.

The last who will die must decide where he stands.

The fate of the eight is contained in his hands.

So bid him take care, bid him look where he leaps,

As life may be death, and death life again reaps."

  • Right as Gregor was about to hit the floor Ares ( Henry's bat) saved him instead of Henry.

  • The team, minus Gox, temp,Henry and Treflex who died and Ripred who stayed behind, flew back to the town of humans and told Vikus about the rest of the adventure.

  • Vikus took Boots, Gregor and their dad to the portal that lead back to the Overland and said goodbye.

  • As they were about to go through the portal he could hear Luxa talking about another prophecy that he was in, but he was too far away to hear what she was saying.
