William wordworth was a famous English romantic poet in 17th century. He worked on his first draft " Lucy Poems" from 1798 which included " A slumber" and many famous poems. However, "A slumber" is the only poem of the series that did not mention her name.
The stanzas follow an abab rhyme scheme, and the first and third lines are in iambic tetrameter, while the second and forth lines are in iambic trimeter.
William seems like is unable to accept the sudden loss of his love (the young woman). He uses metaphor run through the whole story to intends to emphasize the "dead" things of the earth over living things like trees to express his sadness.
The poem is full of mystery and depth. The poet not only wants to talk about the death of this young woman, but also that bad things can be happened in a peaceful world.
The poet seems that he is hurt by the loss of the love. The theme of this poem is about the pain of loss, the pain I feel when l lose someone l love and cannot stay with her forever. This poem makes people deeply think about the great loss of love.
A Slumber did my Spirit Seal
BY WILLIAM WORDSWORTH
A slumber did my spirit seal;
I had no human fears:
She seemed a thing that could not feel
The touch of earthly years.
No motion has she now, no force;
She neither hears nor sees;
Rolled round in earth's diurnal course,
With rocks, and stones, and trees.
