The story "Mareng Mensiya" is about the news about the death of Mareng Mensiya and from this, the story narrates her life before she died. Although a Visayan Mistress of a Manila policeman, she had a carefree and untroubled life with her daughter Mely or "my Ne" as Mareng Mensiya would refer to her, and much more; they were supported financially and was visited regularly by her husband. Their lives came to a change when her police husband suddenly died as a result; she was forced to work as a laundry woman for families outside her neighbourhood. Mareng Mensiya worked hard and sacrificed her own well-being to make her daughter happy. Nevertheless, Mely continued to follow the pampered life she had before, which her mother did not understand until Mely marry her lover. Because of their poverty, Mareng Mesiya disagreed with the idea that her daughter has to live apart from her so she decided that she will support her daughter and she will work harder to earn much more money. Her daughter visits sometime but only to ask for some money. The people respected and loved Mareng Mensiya so she had a supple life living in different houses. However, the story changed pleasantry the daughter, Mely was indulging herself in a carefree life while Mareng Mensiya was struggling to support her daughter. Because of this, Mareng Mensiya became broke and had no money to buy medicine. Then news just came that Mareng Mensiya was dead.

PLOT

- Mareng Mensiya got broke for supporting her daughter and it's just the neighbors who took care her while her daughter is away from her.

- Ne got tired of taking care of Mareng Mensiya. So Mareng Mensiya went to Aling Sela for support.

- Before Mareng Mensiya died she asked Ne for money so she can buy her medicines but Ne refused. Until Mareng Mensiya died.
