Applications of Pascal's Triangle

The Importance of Pascal's Triangle

Pascal's Triangle is a widely used mathematical concept that can be used for things such as powers of 11, predicting probability, determining binomial coefficients, and much more.

Interesting Application #4

If odd and even numbers are colored differently it displays the same pattern as the Sierpinski Triangle.

Interesting Application #3

The Triangle can also show how many ways heads and tails can combine on a coin. This will show the probability of any combination.

Sierpinski's

Triangle

For example, let H be heads and T be tails. If a coin is tossed 3 times, the possibilities are HHH, HHT HTH HTT, THH THT TTH, TTT thus illustrating the 1 3 3 1 pattern.

Interesting Application #1

What is Pascal's Triangle?

If two numbers right next to each other are added together, they equal the number directly below both numbers.

  • A triangle of numbers in which a row represents coefficients in a binomial series.

Interesting Application #2

If a line is drawn down the center of the triangle it will create a mirror image, excluding the center line.

Each side will have the same numbers
