Rudi Matt is a 16 year old boy who loves to climb. He works at a hotel and cleans dirty dishes, but what he really wants to do is climb. His mother, Frau Matt, doesn't want him to climb because Rudi's father, Jonathan Matt, died while climbing. However, Rudi sneakes out of work just to go climbing.
Captain Winter is one of the greatest mountain climbers along with Rudi's father. He is tall and muscular. One day, Winter was climbing and got stuck inside a crevasse. Thankfully, Rudi snuck out of work to go climbing and found Winter. Rudi got him out and Winter was very thankful. Rudi told Winter that he couldn't tell anyone because he wasn't supposed to be there. Winter kept his word. That tells me Winter is a trustworthy person.
Saxo is an adventurous and dangerous man. All of the other climbers don't like him because they think he takes to many risks. When he goes climbing with Captain Winter, he sneaks off during the night because he wants to keep on climbing. That tells me he's an inpatient man.
Frau Matt is Rudi's mother. She doesn't like Rudi climbing because her husband died while he was climbing, so she doesn't want Rudi doing the same. She got Rudi a job at a hotel as cleaning dishes in the kitchen. Rudi doesn't like that job at all. She really needs to let Rudi make his own decisions and not make him live in her world where he doesn't really have freedom.

The setting of Banner in the Sky would be on a mountain called the Citadel. The Citadel is a very high mountain that know one has reached the top before. It is very dangerous and some people that have climbed it never came back.
