Anders Jonas Angstrom

physicist in Sweeden an one of the founders

of the science of spectroscopy.

Contributions

I was the first to use the spectroscopy the study of spectras, the big example for this would be the Aurora Borealis. known as the northern lights, i was the first to think of using a prism. I was able to disprove the accepted theory that the northern lights came from sun reflecting off of airborne ice crystals and prove that it was exited oxygen atoms. They were considered "exited because they were charged from the sun which made them produce colors in the sky

About how i started out.

i was born in Medelpad Sweeden, and after highschool i moved out to Uppsala University. where in 1839 i became docent in physics.

In 1842 i went to the Stockholm Observatory in order to gain experience in practical astronomical work, and in the following year i was appointed keeper of the Uppsala Astronomical Observatory.

My Creations

in 1858 i succeeded Adolph Ferdiand Savanberg

in the chair of the physics at Uppsala. My most important work was concerned with the conduction of heat and with spectroscopy.

from 1861 onward i spent time paying special attention to the solar spectrum, my combinations of the spectroscope with photography for the study of the solar system resulted in proving that the sun`s atmosphere contains hydrogen, among other elements in 1862.

My Accomplishments

i was the first to examine the spectrum of the Aurora Borealis and detected and measured the charecteristics bright line in its yellow green region.

I devised a method of measuring thermal conductivity, showing it to be proportional to electrical conductivity. In 1853 I pointed out that the electric spark yields two superposed spectra, one from the metal of the electrode and the other from the gas through which it passes
