Russia is Serbias's ally. After the assassination,Austria Hungary declared war on Serbia. Russia was right there to assist Serbia. One of Austria-Hungary's allies was Germany. Germany then declared war on Russia. Italy was also one of Austria's allies. Russia also made an alliance with France. Now you can already see how many countries are involved.

Trench warfare was cold, rainy, muddy, and cold. There wasn't any washrooms so also it smelled terrible. Soldiers often got something called "trench foot" from bring in these horrible and unbearable conditions. These conditions were unexpected by the soldiers who thought war was going to be an "adventure".
