She also has shown that you can be anything you want to be in life like as long as you work hard and never give up. She's shown that your dreams are never to big and too hard to fulfill. She was the first African American woman to be an astronaut and that was a big accomplishment for the black community.
1988- She became the first African-American female astronaut, earning the title of science mission specialist after more than a year of training.
1992- When Jemison finally flew into space on September 12, 1992, aboard the Endeavour on mission STS47, she became the first African-American woman in space. During her eight days in space, she did experiments on weightlessness and motion sickness on the crew and herself.
1973- Mae Jemison enrolled into Stanford University at age sixteen.
1977- Four years later in 1977, Mae graduated from Stanford with a degree in a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering.
1981- Right after she graduated from Stanford she entered Cornell University Medical College. She obtained her M.D. after there for four years.
1985 -In October of 1985, she applied for admission to NASA's astronaut training program after making a career change. The Challenger incident delayed the selection process. But when she reapplied the next year she was one of the fifteen canidants chosen from a group of 2,000.
1987- On June 4, 1987, she became the first African-American woman to be admitted into the astronaut training program.
