Communist newspaper "Pravada" praises Stalin on his 60th birthday.

"There is no similar name on the planet like the name of Stalin. It shines like a bright torch of freedom, it flies like a battle standard for millions of laborers around the world...Stalin is today's Lenin! Stalin is the brain and heart of the party! Stalin is the banner of millions of people in their fight for a better life."

to preserve his autocratic power and give Russia an appearance of democracy.

The Duma sets up a provisional government, but it fails to solve Russia's problems

Lenin and the Bolsheviks (The Reds) win the Russian Civil War

Stalin and Trotsky differed in their ideas: Stalin advocated for "Socialism in one country" whereas Trotsky supported his theory of "Permanent Revolution"

The Cold War Begins between the Soviet Union and the Allies (particularly USA and Britain).

Lenin and the Bolsheviks (a radical socialist group) seizes power

Stalin stages public show trials as a part of the Great Purge where many communist leaders were found guilty of crimes and then tortured. This lasted until 1938.

The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (U.S.S.R.) is established to be both democratic and socialist

The Second Russian Revolution comes to an end.

Stalin's First and Second Five Year plans have been completed.

The Treaty of Brest-Litovsk is signed to bring peace with Germany

The Bolshevik party changes its name to the Communist Party

The Russian Civil War Begins in June and lasts for two to three years. It is the Bolsheviks (Reds) vs Rebels (Whites)

The Reds execute the Tsar and his family

This includes the rapid industrialization and the collectivization of agriculture (abolishing private farms) for a strong, socialist Russia.

Stalin's first Five Year Plan is put into action
