Part 1
- Slope is the measure of the rate of change of a line.
- It represents the rate of change in the y-values per change in the x-values
- We use slope in order to calculate the change in y values and the change in x values.

Slope From a Graph
You must start from the bottom point on the line and you must rise 6 and run 4. Your slope will be 6/4 which is equal to 1.5.
Slope From an Equation
You must isolate y by subtracting 2x on both sides and then you can identify you slope(-2) and your y-intercept(5)

Slope From a Table
You must calculate the change in y and the change in x. Then you must do change in y/change in x and then you will get your slope.
Zero w/+ y-intercept
Zero w/- y-intercept

Positive Fraction
Undefined w/+ x-intercept
Undefined w/- x-intercept

Real World Word Problem
Slope between 2 coordinate pairs
Carl cuts his neighbors' lawns during the summertime. He charges a flat fee of $10 and $5 per hour of work done. How would you put it into slope-intercept form
Slope=5
Y-intercept=10
y=5x+10
The slope tells how much money Carl earns each hour.
The y-intercept tells how much the flat fee is.
You must substitute into the formula (y2-y1/x2-x1). You will get 7-5/-4-(-7). Then you subtract and then divide 2/3 to find your slope. Your slope is 2/3.
