The Market Square

Map of Market Square

The Market Square is located

in the center of downtown

Fayetteville. It is the home of

the old fashioned Market House

that was used to sell and trade

both goods and slaves in the

early 1800s. This historical feature

is well known in Fayetteville to

show how far this city has come.

Fayetteville's economy is stimulated by a variety of companies. The Department of Defense leads in the amount of employers with Cape Fear Valley Health System, Wal-mart Distribution Center, and Goodyear Tire Plant not far behind. With three universities located in the heart of Fayetteville the education industry adds greatly to the economy by both bringing in more jobs and bringing in students to the area.

Fayetteville's slogan is "History, Heroes, and a Hometown Feeling". I feel as if this describes Fayetteville perfectly. I have loved growing up in a town where I have seen the sacrifice that real heroes and their families make each and every day, where the history is strong, and where you can call on anyone around when you are in need. It is a great place to be and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else!

The economy in Fayetteville keeps going because of these employers and adds many jobs that attract people to this great city. These employers became a great asset to this city because of the many people that move here with their military spouses and are able to find work that contributes to the economy greatly. These big corporations help people to feel stable through rough times in the economyl I would not work for any of these employers because I plan on a degree in elementary education.

The Fayetteville Farmer's Market is the only farmers market in Fayetteville and recieves their produce from farmers within 50 miles of Fayetteville. It is only open twice a week from April until December. In addition to this market there are many roadside stands and produce stores where local fresh food is produced. There are numerous grocery stores such as Food Lion, Harris Teeter, and Carlee C's that sell local produce when smaller vendors are no longer open.

Sense of Culture

A Southern Hometown

The Arts Council of Fayetteville puts on The International Folk Festival every fall in the center of downtown. This festival is just one example of the diverse culture in Fayetteville. It showcases cultures from all around the world that have been brought to this southern town by local residents.

Fayetteville is considered a part of the southeastern part of the United States. It is also in the southern part of North Carolina where it is in the "sandhills" region. Both the beach and the mountains are within just a few driving hours distance.
