Bacteria Wanted: The Plague

Number of victims per year

In recent decades, an average of 7 human plague cases are reported each year (range: 1-17 cases per year)

Most common injury

From Bubonic Plague:

Fever and chills, headache, muscle pain, general weakness, seizures

From Pnumonic Plague:

Trouble breathing, chest pain, cough, fever, headache, overall weakness, bloody sputum (saliva and mucus or pus from the lungs),

Armed and Dangerous

From Septicemic Plague:

Abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, fever and chills, weakness, bleeding (blood may not be able to clot), shock

The Plague broke out in Europe in 1347 (started in italy from a boat coming in from Crimea) and spread. It killed 20-30 million people in Europe.

Most common victims

Hideout of the culprit

Mice, rats, ground squirrels, prairie dogs, chipmunks and rabbits, infected rat flea, and of course humans (mainly young)

Italy and spread through most of Europe

In an organism, it's found in the lymphatic system, the lungs, or the blood.

The translocation of Yernisia outer proteins that blocks the ability of the host cells to communicate with the immune system and it spreads rapidly.
