Amelia Earhart was the first female pilot to fly
solo across the Atlantic Ocean.
Born July 24th, 1897 in Kansas, USA. She married George Putnam in 1931 and disappeared July 2nd, 1937 in the Bermuda triangle.

Close Call
It was a very foggy day and she couldn't see where she was going. At this time, flying technology wasn't very good so she had to rely on eyesight. She was close to the ground but luckily the fog was clear so she landed safely.

-In 1917 she decided to spend Christmas with her
sister here in Toronto
-World war one was coming to an end
-saw for men with crutches so she decided to drop
out of college to work in a hospital to make a change
-In 1918 she visited a military flying field and got the passion to fly a plane
-Difficult to make a living and earn money
-she needed to save up for her flying lessons
and later on, her own plane
-had to work several jobs
-In 1922 she bought her first plane, the
Kinner Airster
-her Grandma dies in 1911
-her dad struggles with alcoholism

-27,000 miles
-brought along two navigators
-took two years of planning
-tried to teach her how to use a radio but she wouldn't listen
-two attempts
-her plane's landing gear broke and the plane
was sliding along the runaway
-her second attempt was better and took off on
May 21, 1937
-she lost contact with the radio operators during the last part of the flight
-declared missing in the Bermuda triangle on July 2, 1937
-finally received her pilots license in 1923
-accepted an offer to fly with two other
pilots to fly across the Atlantic Ocean in
1928
