Overall...

To this day, human beings eat fish and wind or grown plants. If it wasn't for Tu's revenge in the end, people would not have developed this way of survival. (Or we all would just be vegetarians.)

Tawhiri's Revenge!

  • destroyed all of Tane's forests.
  • disturbed the waves of Tangarano's sea. (This caused Tangarano's children to separate causing reptiles to escape to land, while fish stayed in the sea.)
  • Mother Papa hid both Rongo and Haumia and their plants.
  • Before Tawhiri came for Tu, Tu planted his feet into his mother (earth) and withstood the wrath of Tawhiri's winds and storms.

Tu's Revenge!

After Tawhiri gave up on his brother Tu, Tawhiri went to take revenge in his other brothers for not helping him stand up to Tawhiri.

  • Ate Tane's children.(all of the birds and insects)
  • Ate Tangaroa's children.(all of the fish)
  • Ate Rongo and Haumia's children.(all edible plants)

Father Rangi and Mother Papa

Father Rangi was formed out of the sky in the form of the Night. He created Night and Day.

Mother Papa is Earth. Together they created land and had 6 sons.

The 6 sons:

  • Tu: God of War-spirited Humans
  • Tane: God of trees, birds, and insects
  • Tawhiri: God of all winds and storms
  • Rongo: God of the sweet potato
  • Tangarano: God of of all fish and reptiles
  • Haumia: God of fern root, and all other wild edible plants

The Brothers' wanted Sunlight!

Five of the six brothers wanted to separate their father and mother apart so they could escape from the darkness. The only brother that was against this plot was Tawhiri.

All the brothers tried to break their parents apart but failed, except for one. Tane used his legs and pushed his parents apart. Tawhiri heard his parents cries of pain and wanted revenge against his brothers.
