Despite popular belief, there actually are positive aspects to marine life captivity.

People often focus on the negative aspects of captivity, forgetting about the positive effects it brings to society.

Obviously there are issues in the Marine life captivity/ entertainment industry, but every industry has it's problems.

By focusing on these problems in the industry, we forget about the opportunities it gives us, such as research and the ability to actually witness marine life first hand.

Research Opportunities

Keeping these creatures in captivity allows everyday people to learn about these animals firsthand.

By keeping some marine life in captivity it allows researchers to study and learn from them in a more accessible and less dangerous way.

Without zoos and marine parks, many people wouldn't have the chance to see and learn about many exotic animals with their own eyes.

On top of this, the marine life would be way more accessible. Rather than needing to wait to go out to sea every time they needed to research, they could just go to a lab or habitat that the animals are kept in.

The only way people would be able to learn about them firsthand would be to venture out into the animal's habitat.

Not only would this be difficult to do, this would also disturb the wild animals' habitat and their daily lives.

If we didn't keep them in captivity researchers would have to risk their life at sea every time they needed to research marine life.

Humans are the only life forms that have the ability to affect the outcome of other organisms.

Because of this, we need to teach people, young and old, about the different animals and organisms out there.

By having these zoos and marine parks we allow people to learn about these animals and to even form a bond with them.

Observing and learning about an animal firsthand has a bigger effect on you than simply reading or hearing about it.

Should Marine Life be Held

in Captivity?

Having these marine parks allows people to witness marine life they otherwise wouldn't.

Not only are they getting a chance to see these exotic mammals, they are able to do so at a good price and on short notice.

Without these parks, if people wanted to see any of these animals they would have to plan on a boating trip of some sort.

This not only would cost a lot of money, it would have to be planned out in weeks advance.

The marine parks are way more accessible and are much cheaper. The planning and preparation of going on a trip to the animal's natural habitat would deter many people away, causing them to miss out on the experience of seeing these animals firsthand.

Having these marine parks allows the habitats of these animals to be preserved.

As stated earlier, without the marine parks the only way to see these animals would be to visit their natural habitat.

These outings people would have to go on to see these animals would disturb their daily lives and their habitat.

For marine mammals such as whales and dolphins, the noise given off by boats would drastically effect their daily lives. The noise disturbs both their sonar and their communication abilities.

By having marine parks this is completely avoided.
