Simpson was born July 9, 1947 in San Francisco, California. After a successful college football career at USC, winning the Heisman Trophy, O.J. went on to star in the NFL at the running back position. O.J. left football in 1979 to pursue what would become a relatively successful acting career. However, he is now remembered for the arrest and trial from the murder of his former wife and her friend Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman.

Football Career

Simpson played football at Galileo High School. And after breaking junior-college records at the City College of San Francisco, he was heavily recruited. He gained fame as a two-time All-American halfback for the USC Trojans, setting NCAA records and winning the Heisman trophy.

Simpson joined the professional Buffalo Bills in 1969 but did not excel until the offense was tailored to showcase his running. Also known by his nickname, The Juice, Simpson topped 1000 yards rushing five consecutive years (1972–76) and led the National Football League four times. In 1973 he became the first NFL player to rush for over 2,000 yards in a season.

Simpson's Marriages

Simpson married Marguerite L. Whitley on June 24, 1967. They had three children, including Aaren Lashone Simpson, born on September 24, 1977. In 1979, just a month before her second birthday, Aeren drowned in the family's swimming pool. That same year, Simpson and Marguerite were divorced. While still married to his first wife, Simpson met a waitress, Nicole Brown, then 17. Simpson married Nicole Brown in 1985. They had two children.

Brown Simpson often complained to friends and family of beatings at the hand of OJ Simpson, but he denied ever hitting her. Nicole filed for divorce in 1992.

On the night of June 12,1994 Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman were brutally murdered. The two were found laying on the walkway in front of her house, covered in blood and stabbed multiple times. The victims cause of death was slash marks on both of their throats. Although Brown Simpson's two children were upstairs at the time it was a nearby neighbor who discovered the bodies. Orenthal James Simpson was the authorities main suspect in the murders.

What's your Verdict?

O.J. Simpson was sentenced to up to 33 years in prison for 12 charges including armed robbery and kidnapping in a failed attempt to recover sports memorabilia from two collectibles dealers.

Simpson will be eligible for parole after nine years.

His co-defendant Clarence "C.J." Stewart was sentenced to at least 15 years behind bars.

Simpson claimed he was trying to recover stolen property not trying to injure anyone. While the memorabilia collectors claim O.J. Was simply trying to make off with their pricey items that were rare and special, supposedly O.J made multiple threats and used force to try and get the memorabilia.

O.J. Simpson has proven himself to be a very unstable and emotional man, many people blame this on the years of hits to the head he received during his football career. Undiagnosed head trauma may be the underlying cause of many of the learning disabilities and other mental illnesses that are characterized by thinking problems (what professionals often refer to as “cognitive deficits”). So says a new study that the Wall Street Journal reported on.

An example of an athlete that suffered too many brain injuries is the story of Chris Benoit. A former WWE wrestler, whom murdered his wife and seven year old child before taking his own life. Chris Benoit’s signature move was the flying headbutt where he propelled himself off the top rope and landed head first either on the mat or his opponent’s shoulder. He hit his head on the mat in this fashion 300 nights a year for a decade. A week before Benoit’s death, Harvard graduate and former WWE wrestler Chris Nowinski opened up his Sports Legacy Institute to research athletes’ brains and the effects of concussions. Ensuing test results on Benoit’s brain showed that he suffered from Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, a form of brain damage that include depression, cognitive impairment, dementia, Parkinsonism and erratic behavior. While nobody knows exactly what happened on the night of June 24th, it’s hard to ignore the notion that the significant damage most likely played a part in the gruesome murder.

Do you believe the head injuries and hits O.J received could have played a role in his mental instability and abuse of his ex wife?
