Green pen time!

The Election

Peer Assessment

According to your peer assessment edit your speech in green pen.

Swap speeches with another group and fill in your assessment sheets.

Each group must pick one leader to run for election.

The other groups will then give you their vote using a scale of 1 - 5.

Leader of the free world

Think of what you already know about propaganda.

In your groups, create a propaganda speech for either Snowball or Napoleon. EACH person needs to have this written in their books.

Try to include:

  • A slogan/chant (e.g. “Two legs good, four legs bad.”)
  • Biased facts/lies about the pig you agree with.
  • Biased facts/lies about the pig you disagree with.
  • What your pig is trying to achieve and why.
  • Rhetorical questions.
  • Ideals.

Think about who will deliver the speech- will you do it as a group? Will one person do it?

What is propaganda?

In general, a message designed to persuade its intended audience to think and behave in a certain manner.

In specific, institutionalized and systematic spreading of information and/or disinformation, usually to promote a narrow political or religious viewpoint.

It acquired negative connotations in the 20th century when totalitarian regimes (principally the Nazi Germany) used every means to distort facts and spread total falsehoods.

Napoleon v Snowball

Do Now

Let's read chapter 5. On your sheet, note your initial thoughts regarding Snowball and Napolean.

What type of personality is best to have as a leader and convince people that your ideas are right?
