Emigration

Over the past several decades, close to a million Jamaicans have emigrated especially to the United Kingdom the United States and Canada. The great number of Jamaicans living abroad has become known as the “ Jamaican diaspora.” Most Jamaican emigrants have followed a path first to the UK. The other emigrants who don’t go to the UK go to other common wealthy countries such as Canada. Jamaicans migrate directly to Canada, United States, other Caribbean nations.

Reasons for Emigration Reasons for emigration from Jamaica during the major periods of Jamaican diaspora were job opportunities. Ample immigration opportunities in Canada, the USA and the UK also helped, providing Jamaicans with a thriving community of their kinsmen to join.

Emigration: For many years people have been emigrating to the United States of Amarica. The USA is the most emigrated spot from Canada. Still not to many people emigrat from Canada.

While the most popular local sport is cricket, on the international stage Jamaicans have tended to do particularly well at track and field athletics. Such as Usain Bolt who has won 6 olympic gold medals and 5 gold, world championships. World record holder in the 100m for men at 9.58s and holds the olympic record at 9.63s. He also holds the world record at 19.19 and olympic record at 19.30.

Human Development Index

Things That Could Affect Jamaica's HDI

1. I think that more atractions could improve

Jamaica's HDI because it would make the GDP

per capita higher. It would also make the literacy

rate higher because more people may migrate to

Jamaica.

2. I think that better health care could improve

Jamaica's HDI. I think this because with better

health care comes better life expectancy. With

better life expectancy comes more jobs and a

better literacy rate. All of these reasons will help

Jamaica's HDI.

3. I think if Jamaica had a better economy then they

would have a bigger HDI. I think this because if the economy was better then more people would immigrate

to Jamaica. Which would make a better GDP, better living

standerds, and better life expectancy.

Things That Could Improve Canada's HDI

1. I think if we had healther eating habits

then we could have a longer life expectancy

which would help are HDI. To have a longer life expectancy than we have to eat the right amount of food groups.

2. I think Canada could give more money to education

so that the literacy rate will be higher. For example

they could bye faster and more scientific computers

for some of the schools. They could bye some laptops or tablets so it would be easier to learn.

3. If we had more jobs for people to take

then we would have less people unemployed

and less people under the poverty line. If we

did have more jobs then it would improve

the GDP and the living standerd's. Then the

HDI will improve.

Poverty is a factor affecting the HDI in Jamaica

because when to many people are below the poverty

line it makes the GDP lower which makes the HDI lower.

Health is a factor affecting the HDI because

if the people arn't healthy then they cant

concentrate on there schooling or jobs. Which

affects the literacy rate and the GDP.

Education affects the HDI because when

the education is bad then the literacy rate

is lower. Which makes the HDI lower.

Life expectancy is a factor of the HDI because if people

don't live as long then the GDP isn't as high and the

literacy rate isn't as high. So it all affects the HDI.

The GDP affects Canada's high HDI. GDP affects it because if the GDP is low then the HDI is going to be

lower.

If Canada is a free country then it

affects the HDI because the people

have rights.

Education affects the HDI because it

affects the literacy rate. When the literacy

rate is lower it reduces the HDI.

Life Expectancy is an affect that affects the

HDI because the life expectancy is part of the

HDI so when the life expectancy is lower then

the HDI is lower.

Health is a huge affect on the HDI

because it affects the life expectancy,

education and the GDP. When we are

unhealthy then we don't live as long so

it affects the HDI.
