It is diagnosed by the own patient, by seeing if his or her hand acts weird and he or she has not control over the hand.
There are no disorders associated.
The syndrome is caused by a brain injury, but the root cause of this is not yet discovered, but there are certain theories that haven't been proved yet.
You can have it if, for example, from a result of a brain surgery.
There's no course of devlopment. It just starts...
The symptoms are:
- The hand does actions that the owner of the hand is unaware of, until it comes under his or her attention.
- They can't control the affected hand.
- They can't FEEL control over the hand
- BUT: people that suffer this say that they still could sense that their hand is still normal
The Alien hand Syndrome is a condition where the person who suffers it does not have control over his (or her) non-dominant hand.
The person is unaware of the hand movement until is brought to their attention.
This is a neurological disorder and it was first identified in 1909, and only 40 to 50 cases have been recorded until today.
