African National Congress (ANC)

In 1948 Mandela joined the ANC because he believed that South African blacks had the same rights as white people.

Nelson Mandela President

1994 is an important year for South Africa: the black voted in an election for the first time, the ANC won the election, Nelson Mandela became president and abolish the apartheid.

The Nobel Prize

In 1990, President De Klerk freed Mandela for the prison. The two men agreed South Africans had to work together in peace and they won the Noble Prize in 1993.

Rolihlahla Mandela was born on 18 July 1918 (Mvezo, South Africa)

It was given the name Nelson one of his teachers

He studied law at university and started working as a lawyer for poor black Africans

It was a widespread boycott of South Africa products and entertainers and sport teams refused to go here

Whit this the people hoped this persuade the government to abolish apartheid

Nelson Mandela was a civil rights leader in South Africa who fought against apartheid, he was also the first black president of his country

In 1998 the government allowed the blacks students to go into white universities and things started to change very frequently

The arrest of Mandela

In 1956 arrested Mandela and again in 1962 after he tried to overthrow the government

This time they sent him to the prison of Robben Island to do 18 years of hard labour

Sharpeville 1960

In 1960 there's an peaceful protest in Sharpeville and the police killed 69 people.

But this didn't stop Mandela that continue to speak against the government.
