1836-37

The Indian Intercourse Acts designates territories west of Missouri, Arkansas and

Louisiana as "Indian Territory."

Indian Territory was from Red River of Texas north to the Canadian border.

The remaining 18,000 Cherokee had two years to move west.

1838

Two years had past and only 2,000 of the Cherokee Natives had moved west.

1836

An angry militia that consisted on 7,000 men charged Cherokee camps and forced them out of their homes.

The Treaty of New Echota is ratified by U.S. government

President Andrew Jackson sees Cherokee leaders signature and moves froward and eliminates all remaining Indians out west.

Most of them weren't permitted to gather up belongings. Their once homes were "looted" and set on fire

Cheif John Ross petitions but he is overruled by the Supreme Court.

Congress urges President Andrew Jackson to pass act forcing Native Americans west of Mississippi River.

The Trail of Tears was a series of trails walked on by the thousands American Indians forced from their homes.

1836

The U.S. passes Indian Removal Act causing major controversial.

Arkansas becomes a state and the Republic of Texas is established.

The drought, lack of forage, road conditions, and varies diseases made the journey almost impossible. Not to mention the harsh U.S. militia breathing down their backs.

The Chickasaw voluntarily remove and settle on the western fringe of the Choctaw nation in Indian Territory

Cherokee Indians went the Supreme Court who decided they had the right to self-government and signed Georgia's extension over to them but did so with other intentions.

4,000 just Cherokee people died on either hunger, disease, or ammonia.

Seminoles of Florfia begin remove along with Muscogees and the Creeks.

Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek removes

Choctaw Indians from Mississippi and makes then journey to Ohio.

They traveled in below freezing temperatures and close to six thousands died on the journey.

1833-34

Choctaw's become first of the "Five Civilized Tribes" meaning they'd have to forget their native roots and take on American cultural.

Numerous tribes continuing to sign over their land.

Cherokee leaders sign the Treaty of New Echota. The U.S. goverment would agree to buy all Cherokee land for $5 millon.

However Cherokee principal, Cheif John Ross denied to sign treaty.

The treaty of Pontotoc in Mississippi forces out Chickasaw tribes from their lands.

The treaty of Payne's Landing requires the removal of the Seminoles tribe from Florida. It took about 15 million dollars and almost 20 years to force out the tribe

With little hope, tribe after tribe cede their land.

Andrew Jackson is reelected President.

The Saux, Fox, Praririe Band of Potawatomis, Shawnees, Delawares, Kaskaskias, Peorias, Piankesaws, Weas and smaller tribes such as; Stockbridge, Munsees, Brotherton, and

Oneidas all sign treaties with U.S. giving up

land.

Most of these tribes ceded their land for land in Kansas.
