Disappointed in herself for believing her sisters, Psyche threw herself into the river, expecting to drown. But Pan, the god of shepherds, pulled her out of the water and told her to ask Aphrodite for help. So, she did. Aphrodite pretended to help Psyche, giving her tasks to prove her love for Eros that no mortal could ever accomplish. But Psyche completed the tasks.

Psyche's Story

Psyche: Greek Goddess of the Soul

Psyche was a very beautiful mortal and envied by many, including Aphrodite, the goddess of love. Out of jealousy, Aphrodite told people that Psyche was (in some way) unfit to marry.

One night, Psyche went into Eros's room with a dagger and an oil lamp, expecting to see a monster, but found Eros. She leaned over him to get a better look, when a drop of oil fell onto Eros's shoulder, waking him instantly. Saddened, he got up, and flew away.

Concerned, Zeus went to Apollo's Oracle at Delphi, and was told that his daughter should prepare for death, so he took her to the edge of a cliff, and abandoned her. Before she could jump, the wind carried her to a far away palace, where she met Eros, the son of Aphrodite and god of love, but she was not able to see him and did not know his name.

Psyche is known as a beautiful maiden who personifies the human soul.

Psyche's Animal and Color(s) are:

The butterfly

Black, light blue, blue, purple, silver, and sea green.

She was also the daughter of Zeus, and fell in love with Eros (Cupid).

For a long time, she lived in the far away palace happily (people say it could have been hundreds of years). When her sisters came to visit her, they became jealous of her "luxurious" life at the palace, so they told Psyche that Eros was a monster and that she had to kill him.

Phyche is often shown to have butterfly wings

She didn't know it, but invisible beings sent by Eros helped Psyche complete the tasks. After completing the last, very difficult task, with the help of Eros, she was finished, and Eros returned to his visible form. After a lot of convincing, Aphrodite accepted Psyche as her son's wife, and they lived happily ever after.
