Speech to Text, also known as Speech Recognition that we use today was mainly developed by Gegery McFerg Boston in the year of 1987. Since then, many people have contributed and changed the way we use it, such as creators of Siri, the popular speech recognition installed application many people use today on the iPhone. This technology has been able to change the way people use their phones, whether if it’s just easily making a search, text or having an entertaining conversation with Siri. People who are blind/visually impaired no longer have to feel left out of technology uses, as this makes it very easy to use a phone. Text to Speech has also been very helpful for people not completely blind, they can make sure they don’t make any mistakes or typo’s in text’s or just a basic search. It has a long history of making it go from computers to phones, dating back all the way to the late 1700’s and today it is very helpful to everybody, not just people with a visual impairment.
If you have a smart-phone able to do this, it's already on the phone and it's free. If not, the average cost for a good, text to speech/speech to text smart-phone such as an iPhone would cost around 100-200$ with a 2 year contract, but if not it could range from 400-800$.
